Friday - On Friday night, we went to JFK for our 1:30 am Saturday flight to Mexico City!!! The plane was horribly uncomfortable, but we were served dinner when we first leveled off, and Shane and I shared a 3 seat row, so I was able to spread out a little. if it weren't for that, I honestly don't think I would have slept a wink.
Saturday - We arrived in Mexico City around 5, and waited not so patiently for out flight to Cabo. Getting through customs was quick and painless. We arrived in San Jose del Cabo around 11am!! Then we took a scenic ride to our resort in Cabo San Lucas. I was so happy we were able to have all day to explore, since we took the late night flight. Our resort was PERFECT. Overlooking the Sea of Cortez, I absolutely loved it and was so happy I chose that hotel. We were not able to check in until 3pm, so we ate lunch and relaxed. After we checked in, we went poolside at the 'quiet' infinity pool.....so gorgeous!! After dinner at the buffet, I was asleep before 8pm!! :)
Sunday - Ahhh, timeshares....you gotta love 'em. The moment we were trying to leave the airport in Cabo, we were convinced to spend the next morning visiting a timeshare, in exchange for 2 free activities. We chose wave runners & massages (which we never did because we'd have to spend $50 in cabs to go BACK to the timeshare resort, which we didn't realize at that point. Anyway, it was worth it...we spent three hours, however, touring this resort, and coming very close to signing my life away. Actually, it was a good deal, but Shane was not so easily convinced. We were back at the resort by noon, for some more buffet and pool time.
Monday - Horses!! I used to love me some horses, so horseback riding was a no-brainer when I chose the activities for our trip. We rode through the desert with our trusty guide. My ballet shoes were not the proper choice, but it was all I had. Next time I will go riding on the beach to get a different experience. Later, more pool time and dinner and the Mexican restaurant, where a local dog showed up on time and spent the time watching us from below the balcony. We watched the sun go down and the cruise ship disappear into the Sea of Cortez. We bought some souvenirs from the vendors who came to the resort.
Tuesday - We went on a whale watching tour in the morning, and boy did we get lucky!! Even the crew were taking pictures and saying what a great day it was. We probably spent an hour or so with the same group of whales, and by the end, they were jumping and playing near the boats. They came right up to our boat a few different times....what an amazing day!! At the end of the boat ride we rode past El Erco for some photo ops! We also saw a sea lion when we were docking!! We both bought our big vacay hats that day, and did some other shopping at the marina shops. We ate dinner at the steakhouse (after more pool time, of course), and were serenaded by some Mexican singers.
Wednesday - Relaxatioooonnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Sunset cruise at night on a catamaran, past The Arch and into the Pacific. We even saw more whales. Very nice ride. Back to the hotel for dinner & some 'entertainment' (aka...kids dancing around a stage).
Thursday - We walked down the beach to a busier area, where we rented our (free, thank you mr. timeshare salesman) wave runners. The water along the beach was chilly at first, but then it felt like bath water. It must be really amazing in the summer!! More (shady) pool time and I began reading The Lovely Bones, which I didn't put down until I finished it on the plane ride to Newark on Saturday.
Friday - :( The day we say goodbye to our wonderful vacation. :( We ended up spending a night in Phoenix after missing our connecting flight home. Man that really sucked.
